This free double screening of two important new environmental documentaries, Balancing the Scales and Farming the Flood, includes a live Q&A with West Devon farmer and filmmaker Nick Viney.
About the Event
This special evening brings together film, farming, and the future of our natural landscape. It’s a chance for our local community to learn more about regenerative land practices and wildlife conservation, and how these efforts support both people and planet.
🎥 Balancing the Scales
Narrated by Joanna Lumley and produced by Cornwall-based filmmaker Nina Constable, this beautifully shot documentary explores the balance between beaver restoration and the conservation of migratory fish. Featuring expert voices and compelling footage, it reveals the opportunities and challenges posed by these natural ecosystem engineers.
🌿 Farming the Flood
Co-directed by Nick Viney and filmmaker Harrison Wood, this powerful film follows upland farmers as they implement natural flood management techniques on their land. From improved soil health to increased biodiversity, Farming the Flood offers practical, real-world solutions for climate resilience, many of which are backed by public and private funding.
Special Guest Q&A
Following the screenings, audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions directly to Nick Viney, who not only co-directed Farming the Flood but is also a regenerative farmer, artist, and West Devon Borough Councillor. His work in environmental restoration across the region has made a real impact, and we’re proud to support his voice in this conversation.
